ICAO’s air services negotiations’ conference next month in Colombo

Sri Lanka will play host to the 10th International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Conference on Air Services Negotiation (ICAN) scheduled to be held from December 4-8 and organised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) aimed at updating existing traffic rights or creating new arrangements among member states.

Delegations from around the world will converge in Colombo to discuss negotiation of air service agreements aimed at either updating existing traffic rights or create new arrangements or market access among the ICAO states, a statement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority, which is coordinating the meeting along with other state organizations involved in travel and tourism, said.

At present, 74 states have registered to attend this conference representing regulators, airlines and tourism authorities with over 500 foreign delegates in total from all continents of the world expected to converge in Colombo for the event.

The opening ceremony of ICAN will be at the BMICH on December 4 and thereafter negotiations between respective delegations will take place at the Colombo Hilton until December 8 in camera, as per their mutual arrangements made in coordination with ICAO, the conference organiser.
