The scene shifts back to Kotawila as there was an exhibition by sports attached to the Ministry of Sports as to what they had done in the last nine years. The cricket stand attracted a lot of attention but the things that were on display were a chair and a table with lots of posters! The lack of trophies cast a pall of gloom with those who were interested in the sport.

THE HAUGHTY SELECTOR

The haughty selector who wanted to prove a point was trying to explain about the atmospheric conditions that prevail while playing cricket in New Zealand. He was going to lengths on the subject. But, the former Test cricketer who has played many a Test match in the land of Kiwi calmly inquired, “How many matches did you play in New Zealand…..well I have played some”. That was the end of that boasting session.

MORE ON THE LINE

A manager of the body that heads sports was sacked by the authorities concerned as his work has been slacking. He had another six months to end his contract but the authorities did not want his service any longer. There is a story that is floating around that six other top officials also belonging to the same body, are in line to lose their jobs as their jobs too have been wanting.

A LOT OF ATTENTION ON D/N GAMES

The focus is now on the Day/Night matches which commenced on Friday in the United Arab Emirates. But there is another focus to these encounters that officials attached to the sport are getting ready to watch these games. That is not all; the WEB Radio is also making arrangements to send officials to cover these events… which mean there will be quite a lot to witness these games. Guess what? , All are hoping to obtain air-tickets from the Board that controls this sport!

THE BIG NETBALL HOAX

The body that controls sports recently called for applications from those who were aspiring to be the future netball coach. It has been earlier leaked that a coach has already been selected and that she is currently training an Asian country. Those who were called to attend the interview were asked to submit their agreements. None submitted the agreements, knowing that the interview was a big hoax.

NO CLUE TO SHUTTLING

A lady observer has been selected to accompany a shuttle team which is heading to Myanmar and Vietnam. This lady apparently knows nothing about badminton and her air-ticket alone (up and down) is in the region of Rs. Six Lakhs!

KOTAWILA PROTEST

All eyes were on Kotawila, Matara, where the National Sports Festival took place. However a silent protest took place by some officials. It was easy to spot the leader of this picketing gang as he was drunk to the core. This was easily spotted by the way this leader behaved…swaying and muttering.
