S.A.P. Suriyapperuma, who served as a senior manager in several public and private sector institutions, has assumed duties as the chairman of the Development Lotteries Board (DLB) in Colombo.

He was appointed to this post by Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera on the recommendations of President Maithripala Sirisena.

He holds an Honours degree in Business Administration (Special) from the Sri Jayawardenapura University and began his career as a Management Trainee at Bank of Ceylon and later on went onto be a senior manager at Seylan Bank and subsequently as a chief manager.

He also served as the Chairman of the Lanka Cement Company and an advisor to the Samurdhi Ministry.

In 2004 after leaving the public sector, he functioned as General Manager and also as a board member of Pyramid Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a company affiliated to Wilmar International (Singapore), a leading palm oil producer in the world.

He was instrumental in introducing the process of refining palm oil and the manufacturing of fats to the Sri Lankan market for the first time.

In 2012 he joined the parent company Wilmar International as the Director General Manager overseeing Wilmar Africa Business in Ghana and thereafter as head of business for Wilmar Olivine Industries in Harare for one year till his return to Sri Lanka.
