While showcasing the know-how, innovation and complications of one of the world’s high end French watch brands ‘Cartier’, the company says “clients are the most precious asset to us”.

A range of watches captured by Sunday Times photographer M.D. Nissanka at the event.

In making this statement, Guillaume Alix, Cartier Regional Managing Director for Middle East, India and Africa also noted that the company has a strong partnership with Chatham Luxury since the inception of the Sri Lankan company in 2012.

He was speaking at an event organised by Cartiers for the first time at the Galle Face hotel in Colombo last week.

More than 43 pieces of fine hand-made watches were showcased at the event.

He stated that every elegant watch has a story to tell, from its scratch till it goes into the showroom.

According a media release issued, Cartier creations are among the most distinctive in the watchmaking industry. Highly recognisable display elements and unique shapes are the hallmark of these watches ever since the creation of the Santos-Dumont watch in 1904. This was when pioneer Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont told his friend Louis Cartier of the impracticality of pocket watches when it came to flying; Cartier created the flat wristwatch with a distinctive square bezel for his friend. The rest is, of course, history. The Tank watch, created in 1917, also set the course for watch making for a century afterwards and continued to do so.

The rounded curves of the Tonneau, Tortue and the Baignoire set off the precise lines of the Tank Skeleton Watch and the beauty of the various complications. All of which reflect the pursuit of perfection and the timeless watchmaking philosophy of Maison Cartier, the media release added.
