It was a sixes all the way as Shehan Fernando (136 n.o in  53 balls, 13×6, 10×4) and Lahiru Milantha bombarded the boundaries to  help Old Peterites trounce Old Benedictines in their Under 40  Quadrangular Tournament match at Asgiriya.

The Old Bens had their own hero in Madura Madushanka who scored an attractive 93 with eight fours and three sixes.

Old Benedictines 231 for 8 in 50 overs ( Madura Madushanka 93, Yohan Soysa 26, Sandun Sampath 19; Janith Liyanage 3 for 41)

Old Peterites 232 for 2 in 20.1 overs  (Shehan Fernando 136 n.o, Lahiru Milantha 57, Jason Perera 2 for 49)

Old Joes through to the final

Old Josephians advanced to the final on the Under 40 segment by beating Old Anthonians by five wickets at the Welagedera Stadium. Awaiting them in the final will be the in-form Old Peterites.

The Old Anthonians made a modest 144 while Josephians reached the target with 27 balls to spare.

Old Anthonians 144 in 34.3 overs (Nipuna Ratnayake 21, Manoj Chandraratne 21, Anura Bandara 25).

Old Josephians 149 for 5 in 35.3 overs (Piyumal 57 n.o, Rosco Thatil 29, Ian Daniel 17 n.o, Suneth Hettiarachchi 2 for 22).

Old Anthonians enter final

Hosts Old Anthonians entered the final of the Over 40 segment when they beat the Old Josephians by six wickets at the Campus grounds.

The win was set up by the off spin of Mohammed Azari (4 for10) and paceman Asela Herath and Chinthana Girihagama who took three wickets and two respectively.

Champika Siriwardena who blasted a quick-fire 37 (6×2, 4×4) and Suresh Pieris, unbeaten on 19 secured the victory.

Skipper Krishan Tillekeratne, Sanjeeva Rasiah and Denham Cramer stood out for the Old Joes.

Old Peterites win over Old Benedictines

The over40 game in the Quadrangular tournament played at Peradeniya ended in a five wicket win for the Old Peterites over the Old Benedictines.

Particularly noteworthy was the fact that batsman turned commentator, turned bowler Russel Arnold claimed 3 for 11.

Carmen Maputana made 38, more than half the team’s total of 74. Damien Tissarachchi steered the Old Peterites home with a composed innings of 29.
