First state-operated bus

The first-ever bus operated by the Government in 1958 is being displayed at the BMICH premises in Colombo. A notice says that this Mercedes Benz 60-seater was made in 1957 and is in good running condition. The Ceylon Transport Board was commissioned in January 1, 1958 with then Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike and then Transport Minister Maithripala Senanayake making the inaugural journey to Colombo from Veyangoda
