Sri Lanka lose to Singapore and Malaysia convincingly at WYNC

Sri Lanka has lost six out of seven games at the World Youth Netball Championships (WYNC) currently being held in Botswana.

Sri Lanka took part in the competition as champions of the Asian Youth Netball Championships held in Hong Kong 2015. In that championship Malaysia were the runners-up) while Singapore bagged the third place. This time the Lankans lost to both these teams.

Sri Lanka has lost so far to Singapore and Malaysia in ranking matches. Sri Lanka lost to Singapore 36-63 and lost to Malaysia after a close fight 53-57. In the first round Sri Lanka were classified into Group A where Sri Lanka lost to Scotland 48-69, lost to Northern Ireland 44-56 and lost to Samoa 49-73. Sri Lanka lost convincingly to New Zealand 15-125, which is a tournament record.

Meanwhile Singapore crashed to Australia by 119 to 12. Sri Lanka was scheduled to meet Granada for the 19th spot on Saturday night.

Twenty teams are taking part in the tournament from five regions. The final today will be between defending champions New Zealand and defending runners-up Australia. England will meet Fiji for the third place.   - SP
