The Ministry of Education (MoE) has started distributing relief packages to 60,000 flood-affected students.
Each student will receive a  package which includes 3 sets of uniforms, vouchers for shoes, textbooks, school bags, lunch boxes, water bottles and clothes. Additionally, a set of past question papers in the last 5 years will also be given to Ordinary and Advanced Level students.

The MoE said the Rs 5 million collected as flood relief from Ministers and MPs has also been included in the package.
The MoE is involving selected schools in the distribution process. The website said teachers and students will distribute the packages to the most affected students.

Schools have also been directed to introduce special programmes to reduce the mental/emotional stress suffered by affected students. The MoE has also received the report on damages suffered by schools in the flood affected areas. Plans to rebuild these schools under the ‘the nearest school is the best school’ programme, has been submitted to the cabinet for approval, the website said. (CC)
