A group of Nepali Buddhist monks studying in Sri Lanka used their stipends and collected donations to provide household goods to victims of flood affected areas in Kaduwela recently.

The monks, resident at the Sri Kalyaniwansikaramaya in Makola, while attending universities in Colombo, also went from house-to-house collecting basic domestic items from householders and distributed them among victims affected by the recent floods at Thunadahena in Korathota, Kaduwela.

The Viharadipathi, Makola Jinawamsa Himi said 55 families comprising around 400 persons were affected by the floods and had not received proper attention from the authorities.

When Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake in April 2015, Sri Lanka assisted the people of Nepal in diverse ways. The country sent a military contingent to assist in relief operations while members of the public also contributed to an earthquake relief fund set up for the victims.

The Napali monks used their stipends and collected donations to provide basics for the flood-affected people at Kaduwela.
