Over 4,000 flood displaced people still housed in camps

Just over 4,000 persons still remain in camps after being displaced by last month’s floods and landslides.
According to the Disaster Management Center’s (DMC) latest statistics released Saturday (17) evening, 4,159 persons from 1,180 families remain displaced, and are being housed in 81 welfare camps in the affected Districts.

Ratnapura District, with 2,425 persons from 728 families housed in 46 camps, accounts for more than half the displaced. Ratnapura also accounts for the highest confirmed death toll with 86, while 15 are missing. Kalutara District has 66 confirmed deaths and 47 missing.
The number of totally damaged houses stands at 3,124, while 20,771 houses are partially damaged.

A total of 455,629 persons from 119,546 families have been affected. The total death toll remains at 213, with 76 persons missing.
Meanwhile, a 24-hour landslide warning issued by the National Building Research Organisation last evening, continued to be in effect for areas in the Districts of Ratnapura, Kegalle and Galle.
