N-S UCM Train for Humanity ‘rescues’ Matara school

The United Citizens Movement (UCM) Train for Humanity, initiated by the Presidential Secretariat, arranged a consignment of material assistance to Dudley Senanayake Vidyalaya (DSV), Pitabeddara, Matara, located near the Nilwala River, which was badly affected by the recent floods.
The Train has been collecting items from donors in the North, starting from Kankesanthurai (KKS), and the Army was called to transport and distribute the items brought by the train to Matara.

About 300 UCM volunteers helped clean the school premises and repair the damage. With the participation of Medical Specialists, they have organised a Medical Clinic for the affected children. They also helped repair the Subhadrarama Temple at Dehigaspe. Commenting on the project to repair the school, UCM Director Palitha Lihiniyakumara said, “We selected this school as an urgent assignment, when we read the news.

DSV Principal, Manorj Jayawardena thanked the UCM and the Presidential Secretariat.
