Fantastic Rugby season for Royal

Royal College Colombo had a fantastic end to the School Rugby season claiming the Singer Schools Under-20 Rugby League Championship and the 73rd Bradby Shield beating traditional rivals Trinity College. Royal won the first leg played at Pallekele 22-17 and went on to win the second leg 13-8 under muddy and heavy underfoot conditions at the Royal Sports Complex to claim the Bradby Shield for the 32nd occasion.

The aggregate scores were 35-25 in favour of Royal this year as they won their 65th Bradby Shield match against Trinity’s winning tally of 66 while 11 games ended in ties. Last Saturday (3) Royal claimed their third back-to-back Bradby win since 2015.

The Bradby Shield encounter, where the main cynosure is the Under-20 game, also includes two other age groups — Under-18 and Under-16 played in two legs. The Under-18 games, played for the Simithraaratchy Trophy was also won by Royalists who beat Trinity 16-0 at Colombo. However Trinity had beaten Royal in the first leg at Pallakele by 5-0 but with an aggregate of 16-5 Royal claimed the title. The Under-16 encounters, played as friendly fixtures, was won by Royal who drew Nil-all at Colombo but beat Trinity by 5-0 at Pallekele.
