The Singer Sri Lanka PLC sponsored, All Island Schools 7-a-Side Hockey tournament organised by the Matale Old Thomians’ Hockey Association (MOTHA), will be held at the Edward Park, Matale, on June 24, commencing at 7.00am.

With the approval of the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and the Ministry of Education, the organisers have invited all leading Hockey-playing schools islandwide.

Schools participating in this year’s event will be St. Thomas’, Vijaya College, Zahira College, Christ Church and Sirimavo Bandaranaike, all from Matale, St. Thomas’s Mt. Lavinia, Ananda College, Nalanda College, Wesley College and DS Senanayake College, all from Colombo, Trinity College, Dharmaraja College, Kingswood College, St. Sylvesters College and Vidyartha, all from Kandy, along with Dharmadutha College Badulla, Maris Stella College Negombo, Bandaranayake MV Gampaha, Central College and St. John’s from Jaffna, St. Thomas’ College Matara, Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa, St Aloysius College and Mahinda College from Galle and Royal College Panadura.

According to MOTHA Director, Indrawansa Herath, the winners will receive the A.J. Wijesinghe Memorial Challenge Trophy presented by the organisers, in memory of the late A.J. Wijesinghe, former Principal of St. Thomas’ Matale. The 1st runner-up will receive the A.P.B. Harasgama Memorial Trophy presented in memory of the late A.P.B. Harasgama, former President of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation, and an old Thomian, while the 2nd runner-up will receive the C.K. Hulangamuwa Memorial Trophy presented in memory of late Sqd.Ldr. C. K. Hulangamuwa, former National Hockey player and a Matale Old Thomian.

The Best Player of the Tournament will be awarded the ‘Asian Hockey Star’ Ranjith Wijekoon Trophy, and the Best Up-and-Coming Player will receive the Dampiya Wanasinghe Trophy. In addition, Cash Awards, Certificates and Medals will be presented.
