UNDER WHO’S RECOMMENDATION?

A leading cricket playing school in Colombo with the name of a former Prime Minister had imported six players from various schools throughout the island for their under 17 team.

The question that raised several eye brows of many parents who was behind this new venture and on whose recommendation was this addition made when the school is having a talented and promising pool of players in the under 17 and a student population of 6000?

WORKSHOP FOR NOTHING

Four top members of a popular sport had attended a workshop in Singapore recently. The strange thing is that these officials had nothing to do with the workshop but nevertheless had attended it. What’s more they have submitted claims for Dollars 900 each for attending this seminar.

NO AWARD FOR HIM

All eyes were on a special sport awards ceremony held at the BMICH. There was a sports award for a sports and the recipient came to the event with hopes of receiving it from the leader of the country. Before he could enter the hall he was told that the award was not for him as he had not worked in the ministry concerned to earn this award but had sweated it out at the Health Ministry. He had to go back disappointed!

COLOURS FOR MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

A leading school had presented ‘colours’ for Mountain climbing even though the event was not recognised by the Education Ministry. This head of the school had taken the task to present awards for this lot, maybe because he himself is a dedicated mountain climber?

‘POOL’ FOR COLOMBO PLAYERS ONLY?

All eyes and ears were on the selection of a ladies team to take part in a world event in Botswana. The strange this is that only players from Colombo and its outskirts had been selected to the pool as there was no time to conduct an islandwide search for players. It is reported that the body in charge of the sports and its officials were responsible for this.

NOT DONE SIR!

There is the case of this well known cyclist having kicked his opponent at a race in Minuwangoda. It was found out later that this cyclist had kicked the other cyclist because he was not allowed to win an earlier event, even though the cyclist concerned had agreed for this opponent to win the event.
