OVERAGE PLAYERS A BANE

View(s):

It was a friendly tournament and it was supposed to be for Under-16 players. But there were six players in the local team who were under 19 and some of them even sported beards. No one complained as it was a friendly competition but at least the organisers of the local team should have kept a tab on the ages of the players. The contest was conducted by a foreign association and they will naturally take a bad impression of the tournament back to their home country. Even with the ‘overage’ players the local team could not win it. It was the key outstation team which triumphed!

SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS

One felt really sorry for the press cafeteria at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The table linen which was supposed to be white, were stained and dirty. the whole area looked unkempt. To added insult to injury even the players table where the daily press conference was held was also dirty and piggish. The linen was also torn.  In disgust we heard someone saying “When the previous man who ran show kept this place neat and clean.”

The question is this an ICC standard or a standard set by the One team concept.

CLEAR PROFIT, RIGHT OR WRONGRecently an accounts report, not audited of course, of a popular sports body was handed over to its president. The report showed a clear profit of Rs. 2.5 Million. The strange thing is that the report has been prepared by a ‘golaya’ of the association and when it was handed over to the president, who accepted it without question.

UNTIL 2020 OLYMPICS?

Three sports Big Wigs since 2013 had browsed through this body and still they have been unable to unravel the mystery of this top level committee which deals in international sports. Yet this international sports body continues regardless and it looks as if it will continue until the next 2020 Olympics in Japan.

NINE DIGs

A key sports association making plans for the Annual General Meeting has received nominations from nine Deputy Generals (DIGs) of the law abiding section. It looks as if these DIGs are very keen on holding posts in this particular sports body.
