Wavenet, a provider of advanced solutions and platforms to Telecom Operators around the world, launched its next generation Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) solutions stack at the 12th edition of the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona last month.

In a media release, Suren Pinto, CEO of the company, said that with over a decade of telecom domain experience, Wavenet has been able to gain an insight of operator pain points concerning widely used offerings such as messaging and media services. Messaging services such as SMS and USSD used the same protocols but operated in separate systems, proving to be both onerous and exceedingly pricey for telecom operators. Wavenet merged these related services to single platforms, facilitating operators to gain savings, optimise resource sharing and simplify management, the release said.

“Operators need to streamline their networks to serve the growing mobile subscribers and meet high QoS (Quality of Service). However, more hardware should be purchased to serve the changing subscriber demands. Such a static system does not offer the flexibility to shape networks organically. Therefore, several operators presented NFV, which is the application of standard IT virtualisation technologies, to their networks in order to overcome these challenges,” Mr. Pinto said.

“Never one to rest on its laurels, Wavenet now delivers these platforms using the latest technologies such as NFV, which is a network architecture concept using IT virtualisation,” he has said noting that as data centre administrators look for technologies that simplify network functions while offering lesser costs, better scalability and progress in network agility, what’s embraced is NFV.

NFV is increasingly becoming attractive to integrators and value added resellers (VARs) who need to spot strategies that compliment virtualisation and network programmability, Mr. Pinto has added.

Wavenet’s comprehensive portfolio of products and services allow operators to offer differentiated subscriber services, create new revenue streams, reduced churn, control OpEx and enhance subscriber experience, he  added.
