‘Village in the city’, an exclusive Jaffna Dance and Music Festival will come alive at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel till February 26th.

Started on 16th February, the Jaffna Festival will feature eight traditional dance and music groups from Jaffna including the culinary delights from the Peninsula.

What sets Jaffna apart from the rest of Sri Lanka is its vibrant and colourful outlook to life. The pace is less hurried than in the city of Colombo but is rich in activity that boasts of the authenticity of
the district.

Rich in culture and heritage Jaffna boasts of distinctive forms of dance and music. Among the many is the ‘Nattu Koothu’ dance form, which dates back to over 250 years.

A team of eight talented artistes’ part of the ‘Nakkappu Gramiya KalaiKulu’ troupe have been commissioned by hotel Cinnamon Grand to perform at their debut Jaffna Festival at the Hotel’s village in the city. These artistes have learnt this art from their fathers and grandfathers, who learnt from generations before.

Coined a ‘dying art’ even in India, the artistes have worked hard to promote this traditional dance form whenever possible.

The festival comes alive during dinner on all days and during lunch time on weekends.  The buffet is priced at Rs.2600/- nett.

The Cultural Partners of the Event is PuCall  0112497468 for more details.
