“Premaya Nam” at Film Festivals in Pune and California

“Premaya Nam”, the debut film by two brothers Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana Ariyawansa has been officially selected for the 15th Pune International Film Festival, India and 7th Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema, California this month.
The film was chosen for 15 International film festivals, including, Beijing, Shanghai, Goa, Kerala, Delhi, London, Florida and Chicago. “Premaya Nam” has had the rare distinction of representing Sri Lanka in prominent film festivals across three continents, which included Asia, Europe and the Americas. So far the screenings of the movie taking place from Beijing in the East to Hollywood in the West, have met with equally warm receptions from the diversified audiences, featuring different countries and varied cultures.
“Premaya Nam” has its unique place in Sri Lankan cinema, as the first live action feature film to be directed by two brothers in its 70 year history. Also written by the brothers Kalpana and Vindana Ariyawansa, “Premaya Nam” is a heartwarming love story with a subtext on mental health and features an ensemble of cast led by Shyam Fernando, Samanalee Fonseka, Suranga Ranawaka and Dr. Sathis Wijemanne amongst many others who are frequent collaborators of contemporary film, TV and theatre in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan audiences will soon have the opportunity to experience “Premaya Nam” in CEL and Rithma and circuit theatres.
