The 2017 will be yet another remarkable year for Hollywood movie lovers as a number of much awaited blockbusters are in the lineup. Interestingly renowned Sri Lankan filmmaker Chandran Rutnam’s ‘According to Mathew’ will be special cinematic presentation that many would be waiting to experience.

Chandran Rutnam’s ‘According to Mathew’ based on the true story of Father Mathew Pieris and the double murder he committed to own his lover will be a thriller to watch. Romantic and crime story around the Anglican priest of the Church of St Paul the Apostle, Kynsey Road, Colombo, who was convicted for the double murders of his wife (Eunice Pieris) and Russel Ingram, the husband of his lover in 1979 will be a story, a revisit to one of the griping events that dominated media reports.

Interestingly Bollywood star and former Miss Sri Lanka Universe Jacqueline Fernandez, makes her English-language debut in ‘According to Mathew’ and singer Alston Koch will play the role of Fr. Mathew.

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”

The sixth and final installment in the Resident Evil film series, ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ sci-fi action horror is to be screened soon in CEL circuit cinemas including Majestic Cineplex.

Starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, and Iain Glen, the film showcases how Alice and her friends are betrayed by Albert Wesker, who gathers the entire forces of Umbrella into one final strike against the apocalypse survivors. The film is directed by Paul W. S. Anderson.

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

‘Logan’

Inspired from “Old Man Logan” by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, ‘Logan’ undertakes the final adventure in the post-apocalyptic future.

Featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine, ‘Logan’ is intended to be the 10th  installment in the X-Men film series and the third and final Wolverine solo film.

Directed by James Mangold, Hugh Jackman stars as Logan with Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez featuring in supporting roles.

The international release of the film is scheduled for March 3.

The other leading film importer Liberty Cinemas Ltd will bring down two blockbusters ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ and ‘Great wall’.

‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’

Directed by D. J. Caruso, produced by Vin Diesel, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Samantha Vincent, the film revolves around an extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) comes out of self-imposed exile, thought to be long dead, and is set on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang (Donnie Yen) and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.

The film stars Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Samuel L. Jackson, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, Rory McCann, Kris Wu, and Ariadna Gutiérrez.

The Great Wall

The Great Wall, historical action-adventure directed by Zhang Yimou is a mystery centered around the construction of the Great Wall of China.

Written by Tony Gilroy, Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, Max Brooks, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz, the film stars Matt Damon, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau and Eddie Peng.
