New ‘Mathura’ for cuisine and Bollywood parties

Popular South Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, ‘Mathura’ now located at the Melbourne Avenue in Bambalapitiya.

Mathura Restaurant, one located in the Havelock Road, close to the Havelock City, has moved to its new premises in November for more spacious dining experience.

Mathura at Melbourne Avenue with enough seating capacity of 120 and ample parking space, is a reflection of Indian vegetarian cuisine, culture and Bollywood lifestyle. It has typical Indian style wooden furniture, colour painting depicting Hindu mythology and photographs of old Bollywood scenes.

The restaurant does all South Indian vegetarian dishes such as popular paper Masala Dosa, Paneer butter Masala, Veg biriyani and diverse wadais.

Mathura is a popular destination not only for a wide  array of mouth-watering South and North Indian pure vegetarian cuisines, but also for the enthralling Bollywood musical nights dedicated to legendary Indian artistes.

This crowd-pulling move has attracted a large number of music lovers who enjoy the music wrapped in a tuneful atmosphere.

Well known film producer Dr. Buddhi Keerthisena who is also the CEO of Cinecity is the livewire behind Mathura Restaurant.

The Bollywood nights come alive at Mathura once a week was an instant hit. With the last one attracting none other than the newly appointed Visual and Performing Arts University Vice Chancellor Prof. Sangeeth Nipun Sanath Nandasiri, his songstress wife Malkanthi Nandasiri, Anuradha Nandasiri, Anusha Damayanthi, Sachini Ayendra, Boodee Keerthisena and others.

The night was dedicated to Bollywood legends Lata Mangeshkar and Madhubala.

Prof. Sanath Nandasiri interacted with the music-loving customers of Mathura, recalling his early days in Indian while studying music at the Baathkande University and especially talking about India food he likened them to the food served at Mathura.

Dr. Buddhi Keerthisena said, he was now planning to launch a Mathura Film Club soon, which will be he first of its kind in Sri Lanka.

‘We have never had this kind of culture where film enthusiast could sit and watch evergreen Tamil and Hindi movies while relishing their food. Mathura will provide that luxury with the 25-seater hall where film lovers can sit and watch movies and enjoy the best Indian meals at the same time. This will certainly turn out to be a different experience for our customers. I hope to extend this facility with film discussions, presentations and screening of special short films. All arrangements are being made now to inaugurate the Mathura Film Club in January’ he said.
