S.Thomas’s crushed Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda by eight wickets in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.

The second day’s proceedings saw the match lasting only 49.2 overs which came to an end just after the lunch break. Dharmasoka MV resuming their second innings from their overnight score of 42 for 2 put in another pathetic batting performance after being bundled out for 91 in the first inning.

The bowling trio of Dulith Gunaratne, Ravindu Kodituwakku and Pavith Ratnayake combined with effect and shared nine wickets between them to bowl out the Sokians for another low score of 97.

S. Thomas’ in pursuit of a simple run chase of 43 runs raced to the target in the 12th over to record their first outright win of the ongoing Under 19 cricket tournament.

A knock of 118 in 151 balls inclusive of 19 boundaries by Dulaj Ranatunga and two other useful contributions coming from Dinanjaya Premaratne and Dilshan Kollure helped Maliyadeva to make a bold reply against St  Joseph’s on day two in the match played at Kurunegala.

Maliyadeva in reply to St Joseph’s score of 300 for 9 declared resuming from their overnight score of 62 for 1 scored 338 for 5. They were guided by a fourth wicket partnership of 148 runs between Dulaj Ranatunga and Dilshan Kollure supported by a 68 from Dinanjaya Premaratne.

St Peter’s after being restricted to a score of 139 on day one fought back to bowl out Nalanda who was struggling on 118 for 7 for a score of 133 to gain a slender first inning lead in the match played at Bambalapitiya.

St Benedict’s had the edge over Zahira in the match played at Kotahena with the two sides’ making an identical score of 136 the Benedictines was steered by the bowling duo Kaveesha Jayatilleke who ended with a five wicket haul and Maheesh Theekshana who combined to bowl out the Zahirians for a low score of 124 leaving the Bens a target of 125 runs in two session of play.
