The South Asia China Youth Confederation, a new regional organisation promoting friendship and cooperation with China, was launched in Kathmandu, Nepal on October 18. The meeting was the outcome of an initiative from the Sri Lanka China Society and the Association for Sri Lanka China Social and Cultural Cooperation. Youth delegates from South Asia and China participated in the inaugural meeting.

The idea for the formation of this new youth organisation to promote people-to-people diplomacy was originated from the Sri Lanka China Society Youth Club which is active in Sri Lanka at school, district and national levels. Amaradasa Gunawardana, President of Sri Lanka China Society, issuing a message to mark the event said, “This Confederation of Youth will open the doors for the regional youth to join hands with youth organisations in China. I consider this as our responsibility to ensure and encourage our youth to organise themselves correctly and meaningfully. Correct guidance from our General Secretary Mr. Wilmon Wickremasinghe and Mr. Indrananda Abeysekera will always help them”.

Chamika Bandara Seneviratne and Kulanika Kushnara Herath of Sri Lanka China Society Youth Club were elected as president and secretary general of South Asia China Youth Confederation.
