The show promises to be an evening of music, dance and theatre directed and performed by the drama society of St.Bridgets convent on Oct 8 and 9 at the St.Bridget’s main hall. The programme will feature three plays and a variety of other items inclusive of a duet, collection of monologues and dances. The diversity of the event will ensure there is something for everybody.

“Charmed” will feature three plays namely, “Midsummer Night’s  Dream”, “Just Like I Wanted” and “Cinderella.” Each play will be directed and performed by members of the drama society of St.Bridget’s Convent. At charmed the performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be one the audience has not seen before. The cast and crew of the play have decided to have a rather interesting take on the fairies that exist in the play giving each of them their own unique animal to portray a specific characteristic.

In conversation with a few of the cast members it was clear that each of them were very well versed in theatre and were keen to perform the play in a unique and original way making sure that they stay true to the beauty and authority of William Shakespeare. Dulashini Sooriyarachchi who will be playing the role of Puck was a refined speaker who had an intriguing take on her role. She stated that her character was someone that made you want to pull your hair out and has tons of fun and that she enjoys playing such a plucky, excitable role. Her calm mannerisms and practiced speech will bring an interesting take to the role. Sureshni Fernando says her character is a flirty young woman who vies for the affection of a man who does not care for her, she stated that even though it was challenging she relished the opportunity to play the character.  Charmed will also feature “Just Like I Wanted” by Rebecca Schlossberg. This play that is centered around the suicide of a teenage boy Joey is one that has tugged at the heartstrings of many. The Bridgetiens made a production of the same play at the Royal College drama-comp in an American Highschool setting that was well received. This time however they want to bring things “closer to home” and localise the play in a way that everyone present will be able to relate. Saleemah Mohideen who will play the role of Joey has experience with the role before and seemed carefully optimistic about performing her part in a unique way that’ll lock the character in a loop and leave you on edge. The third play to  be featured is a modern rendition of “Cinderella.” The drama society of St.Bridget’s intend to capture the essence of the bed time story with an added flavor and flare to the musical and theatrical aspects of the play.  In conversation with Anneta Devananda and Thanuri Pulasha who will play the roles of the King and Queen respectively, the all-around jovial and entertaining feel for the play was ever present. They said  it was an incredibly rewarding experience to be a part of such a modern rendition of the script.

In addition to the three plays, “Charmed” will be an evening of music as well. Danika Lopez and Siobhan Manueal Pillai will perform “The Time Of Our Lives” by Tyron Wells as a duet. The O / Level section of the club will come together to perform a series of monologues dealing with the issues of a teenager.  The production is being  done purely by the students and teachers of the school and will stand as a testament to the depth of talent that exists among the students.  “Charmed” will hit the stage on Oct. 8 and 9 at the main hall of St.Bridget’s Convent. Tickets will be available at the school.
