Muhurath for ‘Ran Dhoni’

Welknown playwright and teledrama director Priyantha Samarakone’s maiden film ‘Ran Dhoni’, a children’s film was started with a muhurath ceremony at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya.

The film is produced by Dr. Jagath Wijenayake for Silumina films. Dr. Wijenayake earlier produced Dr. Lester James Peries’ ‘Ammawarune’, and Ashoka Handagama’s ‘Vidhu’ and ‘Ege Esa Aga’.

Based on a rural school in Sri Lanka the film talks about the importance of education and it highlights the dedication and the sacrifice made by a teacher. The film is to depict how a young teacher strives to enlighten the future of children in a poverty stricken backdrop.

The film is to play by Rohana Beddage, Nilmini Tennakone, Richard Manamudali, Rathnalalani Jayakody, Anura Bandara Rajaguru, Wickrema Seneviratne, Wasantha Kumarasiri, Harry Wimalasena, Anuja Weerasekara, Sugath Maithri, Daya Wayaman, Sarath Dikkumbura and Keerthi Ranjith. Nupuni Wilson is to make her debut appearance in ‘Ran Dhoni’ while around 20 children are included in the cast.

Cinematography and lighting by Thilak Ranjith, art director is Vijitha Bandara Beralapanathara, production management Manjula Gunawardena, make up by Hendry Premaratne and story, screenplay and direction is by Priyantha Samarakone. Versatile dancer Nilan Maligape directs the choreography of the film.
