Stafford Motor Co. the tournament sponsor, along with Maliban Biscuits, PABC Bank ‘B’, Citi Bank NA, Asia Asset Finance, ACL Cables, Asiri Hospitals and Palliyaguruge Group, booked their berths for the quarter-final stage of the ‘Stafford-Honda’-MCA Division ‘G’ 25-Over League Tournament 2016, at the completion of the pre-quarter-finals last weekend.  Maliban Biscuits proved much too strong for newcomers, Prym Intimates, as they beat them by 113 runs.

Despite the valiant efforts of Jalitha Perera (5-0-17-5) and Anjana Ratnayake (40) for Total Amber, PABC Bank ‘B’ held on to a 10-run win.
A workman-like 84 in 69 balls, inclusive of 4 sixes and 8 fours by Rusira Munasinghe, enabled Citi Bank NA to a fighting 2-wicket win over Kelani Cables.  A swashbuckling 106-run stand for the 6th wicket in 58 balls, between S. Vishan (70 not out in 34 balls, inclusive of 5 sixes and 5 fours) and A. Singappuli (77 in 52 balls with 2 sixes and 10 fours) gave Stafford Motor Co. a cake-walk 117-run win over Cargills Bank.

A good spell of bowling by Nimesh Perera (3 for 21) and a fighting inning by Shanaka Silva (45 not out) spearheaded Asia Asset Finance to a 5-wicket win over Pearson Lanka.  Chryshantha Silva hit a hurricane 146 not out in 78 balls inclusive of 7 sixes and 20 fours, to single-handedly steer ACL Cables to a thrilling 12-run win over Coutaulds Clothing.

Following D. Middeniya’s superb half-century (56 in 48 balls with 10 fours), bowlers, S. Udul (3/48), R. Peiris (2/17) and S. Nadeesh (2/22) kept Mobitel ‘B’ batsmen at bay, for Asiri Hospitals to walk away with a convincing 51-run win.  A superb spell of bowling by Sagara Wijemanna (5-1-27-5) and a fine half-century by M. Muthalif (52) propelled Palliyaguruge Group to a well deserved 33-run win over Deutsche Bank AG. – LR
