New blokes to the boxing ring from Deerananda MV emerged champions

Deerananda MV Pilimatalawa a school which began boxing just three years ago emerged champions at the All Island 47th T.B. Jayah Memorial Boxing championships which concluded at the Jayatilleke Stadium in Nawalaptiya yesterday.

The champion Deerananda MV team bagged two gold, two silver and a bronze medal while Vidyaratana Pirivena University College Horana took the second spot by winning two gold, one silver and three bronze medals and Kadugannawa National School were placed third having won two gold and a silver.

Meanwhile Mohamed Aseen of Royal Colombo, winner of 44-46kgs bout in the 15-16 age group, was adjudged the Best Boxer while the victim of the same bout K.M.E.L.N. Bandara of Deerananda MV took the Best Loser’s award.

The boxing championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association saw the participation of over 220 young pugilists hailing from 54 schools around the island.
