Holy Family Convent Kurunegala clinched the Milo schools netball title for the ninth successive year when they emerged overall champions at the 25th Milo All Island Schools Netball Championship concluded at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara. The Kurunegala girls was the only team to qualify for two finals which was in the U-14 and U-18 categories and then went on to emerge champions in both the age groups while earlier in the day even though their U-16 team lost in the semi-final, it was sufficient for them to emerge champions for the ninth successive year.

The girl’s from the rock city bagged their first title in the year 2008 when it was held in their hometown Kurunegala and then retained it by winning in 2009 at Anuradhapura and followed it up clinching the title in (Matale), 2010 (Matara) (2011), Polonnaruwa (2012), Piliyandala (2013), Beliatta (2014) and Matale last year . Apart from emerging the overall champions Pabasara Tennekoon from the champion Holy Family Convent team was selected as the most outstanding player in the U-18 age group.

Rochelle Fernando of St. Bridget’s Convent was adjudged the most outstanding player in the U-14 age group while Helani Ama Wijesinghe of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo was the most outstanding in the U-16 age group.  In the Division ‘B’ category Sirimalwatte MV Gunnepana came out on top to emerge the U-14 champions while Bandarapola MV Matale took the U-16 champions title and Ranjan Wijeratne MV Buttala the U-18 champions.

awani Wijeyakeerthi of Sirimalwatte MV Gunnepana (Under-14), Uresha Chathurangi of Bandarapola MV Matale (Under-16) and Nimesha Madushani of Ranjan Wijeratne MV Buttala (Under-18) were the winners of the most outstanding players awards in the Division ‘B’ category.
Meanwhile Holy Family Convent Kurunegala ‘A’ also came out on top in the unofficial tournament which was held concurrently in the U-13 age group with Museaus College taking the second spot followed by Visakha Vidyalaya Kuliyapitiya, Devi BV Colombo, Maliyadeva BV Kurunegala, Girl’s High School Kandy, Kalutara BV and Holy Family Convent Kurunegala ‘B’. – MSA
