Police is to record the statement of a High Court Judge (HCJ) for allegedly throwing a heavy court file at a female stenographer, and injuring her. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Sabaragamuwa Province) Rohan Dias said a complaint lodged by the stenographer at the Eheliyagoda police had been forwarded to the Ratnapura police for investigations.

The stenographer, in her complaint, claimed the HCJ had spoken to her harshly and flung the file containing the judgement of a murder case at her, saying there were mistakes, and for the delay in submitting it to him. The stenographer was treated at the Avissawella hospital for her injuries.

The Judicial Services Stenographers Association has lodged a complaint with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). JSC Secretary, Pradeep Jayatillake said the JSC, acting on the complaint, had summoned six other stenographers attached to the courts, recorded their statements and submitted a report to the Commission.
