Royal Turf Club unfolds plans for upcoming race season

The Royal Turf Club (RTC) unveiled its plans for the forthcoming race season that will start on August 6  which will be a Charity Race Day with a Hollywood star expected to add glamour to  the launch. All the proceeds  will go to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society .

Present at the press conference were the committee members of the RTC, President Suranjith Premadasa, CEO of the RTC Wayne Wood, Consultant to the RTC Cyrus Madan and Event Coordinator of the RTC Nikhil Punna .

“ We have earmarked a Special Race Day in aid of the Cancer Hospital and this is just one example of our committed solidarity to charity,” said Mr. Wood. President of the Sri Lanka Cancer Society, Tony Anghie was also present at the media briefing.

Wood said there was plenty to look forward to in the future as the Royal Turf Club moves into the second racing season.  In addition to the Charity Race Day, September 17 has been designated a Ladies’ Day, October 29 will be an Indian theme to celebrate Deepavali,  November 5 will be a Guy Fawkes theme with special activities for children and December  10 will be the Christmas Cup Meeting.

Consultant to the RTC Cyrus Madan made a presentation  on the scope of the work that is going on in Nuwara Eliya and further served to underline RTC’s commitment to the upliftment of horse racing as well as that of the surrounding community .

The evening concluded with a fashion show by Ramona Oshini. With fashion an integral part of horse racing worldwide, the RTC hopes that this industry too would receive a boost as a result of Sri Lanka’s growing racing revival .
