Ceylinco Life recently presented a purpose built classroom to the Sithyvinayakar Hindu College in Mannar, a government school of 1,700 students and 80 teachers. This was the 65th classroom building built and donated by Ceylinco Life under a corporate social responsibility initiative of the company to help rural schools in underserved areas of the country.  In a media release this week, the company said the ceremonial handing over of the building to the school was attended by the Zonal Director of Education in Mannar, the Assistant Director of Education and the Divisional Education Officer of Mannar.

Commencing with a classroom built for the Tissa Primary School in Lunugamvehera in 2004, the company said Ceylinco Life’s schools infrastructure project has traversed the length and breadth of Sri Lanka, assisting schools in diverse locations such as Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Sittandy, Mollipatana Ayithyamalai, Embilipitiya, Nivitigala, Beligala, Avissawella, Deniyaya, Kamburupitiya, Bandarawela, Haputale, Rambukkana, Kandy, Pilimatalawa, Madulkele, Rikillagaskada, Rajawella, Matale, Galgamuwa, Padaviya, Boraluwewa, Anuradhapura, Moneragala, Anamaduwa and Matugama.

A classroom building is currently under construction at a school in Kilinochchi and will be handed over later this year, the company said.  Besides contributing to the development of infrastructure in needy schools, the company also funds and coordinates a series of free medical camps across the country each year under its “Waidya Hamuwa” (Meet the Doctor) programme and donates essential equipment and infrastructure to hospitals.   -(NG)
