Using temple premises as a background for wedding photographs and ceremonies have become an emerging trend. Recently however, authorities at the Dalada Maligawa who are not in favour of such practices have begun to dissuade the practice. .

Recently a newly wedded couple who were posing for wedding photographs within the Maligawa precincts were politely asked by the temple authorities to refrain from doing so.

The couple and the photographer had apologized profusely and said they were unaware that restrictions had been placed on taking photographs in the temple area.

Earlier too a situation arose when a bridegroom clad in the traditional Kandyan dress (Nilame suit) attempted to enter the Sri Dalada Malgiawa.

The Maligawa staff had courteously informed the groom that there could be no two “Diyawadana Nilames “in the Maligawa.

The man had apologized and left together with the bride and bridal ensemble.

Using temple precincts as background for wedding ceremonies and photo shoots has become popular, but often proves to be a distraction to worshipers.
