HNB women in ‘A’ Div cager final
Hatton National Bank booked their slot to play in the Women’s ‘A’ Division final by defeating Seylan Bank 62-42 in the semi-finals at the 11 MSBA Ram Rathnavel Knock-out Basketball Tournament 2016 played at the Henry Pedris Sports Complex last week. For the winners Anjalee Ekanayake (21), Kumarine De Silva (17) and Umanga De Zoysa (14) top scored while Jayaliya Kumari (14) and I. Herath (8) were the main contributors for the losers. In the Men’s ‘D’ Division semi-final match Softlogic Group beat Standard Chartered Bank 55-54 in a nail-biting encounter.
P. Udayanga the skipper led from the front to be the highest scorer (15) was ably supported by A. Fernando (12) and I. Kumara (8) to be main scorers. R. Mohamed (21) and L. Fernando (13) were the best for the bankmen. National Development Bank advanced to the Men’s ‘C’ Division semi-finals defeating Commercial Bank in a quarter-final match played earlier. Having led 43-16 in the half time, the NDB cagers engaged in a speedy game ended the game with a 70-37 victory.
N. Mendis (16), M.N.M. Fawshan (15) and skipper M.C. Malen (13) were the main scorers for the winners while J. Perera (17), J. Arumagam (7) and M. Jayatilleke (6) scored the most for the losers. In the Women’s ‘A’ Division Hatton National Bank booked a berth in the semi-finals when they record a hard fought 43-38 win over Nations Trust Bank in the same tournament at the Henry Pedris Sports Complex. HNB led 18-16 at the half time. The match winners for HNB were K. Silva (17), A. Ekanayake (13) and U. De Silva (13) and for the losers Nations Trust Bank W. Dhananjali (13), N. Paiva (8) and K. Mahawatte played a fighting game.
