Special traffic plans have been put in place in Colombo to facilitate the processions proceeding to participate in May Day rallies, police said.

Approximately 6, 500 police personnel have been deployed today with 4, 000 personnel for security purposes and 2, 500 for traffic duty.

Baseline Road from Dematagoda Junction to Borella Junction and the road from the Cemetery Junction to Mahawatta Junction will be closed or restricted for traffic after 12 noon today.

Traffic will be restricted from Borella to Maradana, along Dean’s Road, C.W.W.Kannangara Mawatha, Ward Place, Lipton Roundabout, Borella Ayurveda Roundabout, Castle Street, Cemetery Road, and Thimbirigasyaya Road (from Torrington Avenue to Mahawatta Junction).

Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Jetawana Road, Armour Street, Barber Street Junction, Sumanatissa Mawatha, Sangharaja Mw, Technical College Junction, Bastian Mawatha and Mihindu Mawatha will also be closed today .

Vehicles entering Colombo from the Negombo / Kandy Road should proceed via Orugodawatta and turn right from Samantha Junction while vehicles from Piliyandala Junction should proceed to Nugegoda Junction via High Level Road and turn right from Kirulapone Junction to Baseline Road and proceed to Narahenpita Junction. Thimbirigasyaya Junction and Duplication Road to arrive at Galle Face.
