Leading musicians of Sri Lanka led by distinguished jazz pianist Harsha Makalande, will come together as the South Asian Jazz (SAJ) ensemble in collaboration with Jazz Unlimited, to celebrate the power and beauty of limitless music on International Jazz Day on April 30 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre at 7 p.m.

Pradeep Ratnayake, Ravibandu Vidyapati, Jean and Rodney Van Heer, Donald Pieries, Noeline Honter, Ashanthi De Alwis and around 25 other musicians will take the stage on this day.

The evening endorsed by UNESCO and Herbie Hancock, will have Straight Ahead Jazz, South Asian Jazz and innovative fusion with the sitar, local drums and Sri Lankan folk voices, as is to be expected when incredibly creative performers, composers and genre benders like Harsha, Pradeep and Ravi come together.

The concert will also give a foretaste of the South Asian Jazz Festival being planned for December 2016, when international artists will join these musicians to celebrate their own unique brand of Jazz.  Concerts are planned to be held in Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna and Galle, along with workshops for teachers and students alike, to create awareness about music.  The SAJ Festival will be a space for world class artists to come together in Sri Lanka.

Tickets priced at Rs. 3000, 2500, 2000, 1500 and 750 (balcony) will be available at the Lionel Wendt Theatre from Tuesday, April 26.
