‘Legend of the Amazon: The Secret of Wonder Woman’ will be presented by the British Council and Mind Adventures theatre company on March 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. at the British Council Library.

Directed by Arun Welandawe Prematilleke, the show which stars Thanuja Jayawardene, Ruvin De Silva, Tehani Chitty, Vindhya Fernando and Tanuja Perera was written by Arun Welandawe Prematilleke and Tracy Holsinger and looks at the origins of the popular comic book character Wonder Woman. Created by William Moulton Marston in the 1940s, the inventor based the character on his two wives; Elizabeth and Olive. The play looks at the intricacies of lives lived beyond the norms of society, as these three pioneers struggle with the constrictions of their time and their place, as they work to create one of the most beloved characters in popular culture.

The show was first created by the company for International Women’s Day last year. In its original form it was a revue with song and dance, which was developed in part through research of the 2014 Gender Gap Report. Through a series of humorous sketches, it explored body image, how women treat women and gender stereotypes.
Tickets are available via Takas.lk and at the British Council Library.
