Drawing out the creativity of women

An exhibition of contemporary visual arts by a group of women artists ‘Space’ will open at the J.D.A. Perera Gallery at Horton Place on March 8 at 5.30 p.m.

The exhibition features the work of women graduates of the University of Visual and Performing Arts. On display will be paintings, sculpture, installations and performance art by Achala Gunawardana, Amitha Indrani, Harsha Manojani, Ishani Ranweera, Janani Cooray, Lasanthi Kithanthri, Manori Gamarachchige, Niluka Weerasinghe, Omali Radhika, Sajeewani Hewawitharana, Suranji Bandaranayake, and Veena Beauty. The artists taking part says their focus is to bring out the creativity of women artists who, after a demanding period of study, tend to disappear into their domestic roles as daughters, sisters, wives and mothers.

The exhibition continues until March 10 from 9 am. To 6.30 p.m.
