St. Henry’s College, Ilavalai, Jaffna produced stunning performance to thrash their much-fancied opponents from Kandy, Dharmaraja College to earn a semi-final spot in the ongoing Kotmale Chox U-19 Schools football championships.

After a tied first half (1-all) the little known footballers from the former war-tone city came back strongly to net three goals to win the quarter-finals in style (4-1). The match was played at the Race Course ground.

The win was a major achievement for St. Henry’s footballers, who have shown a remarkable improvement in recent history.

They will now meet Holy Cross, Kalutara who beat Kingswood College (4-0), Kandy in the semi-finals would go all out to enter their first-ever final in recent history.

On Thursday St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya had a close 2-1 win over St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya while Zahira College Colombo beat Maris Stella College Negombo 2-1 to enter the semi-final round.

The first semi-finals between St. Sebastian’s and Zahira College will be kicked off at 2.30 p.m. on February 16 at the Race Course ground followed by the second semi-finals between St. Henry’s and Holy Cross.
The finals are scheduled for February 19.
