Two Canadian artists are battling for the singles crown on the UK chart. Justin Bieber is battling through his hit song ‘Love Yourself’ while Shawn Mendes is doing it with his song ‘Stitches.

This week Bieber has won the battle taking the No:1 spot with lead of 13,000. Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ is now his longest running UK No: 1 song with a total of six non consecutive weeks.

His previous longest running No: 1 was ‘What Do You Mean?’ with five non consecutive weeks and then ‘Sorry’ with two consecutive weeks at No: 1.

In total Bieber has spent 13 weeks at the No: 1 position between September 2015 and January 2016. Meanwhile ‘Love Yourself’ has topped the charts in Australia, Denmark, Ireland and New Zealand too.

Shawn Mendes has advanced to the No: 2 spot from 4, on the UK singles chart with his hit song ‘Stitches’. The song is still a strong contender for the No: 1 spot.

The pop track began its chart life on the UK chart on 1st October at 79 and then over the next 16 weeks has moved up and dropped down the chart and moved up again in almost roller coaster fashion to its present location.

‘Stitches’ is the third release from Shawn Mendes but the first track to reach the top 10 for the 17 year old. ‘Stitches’ is taken from his album ‘Handwritten’.

Elsewhere on the singles chart it’s the late David Bowie who dominates the chart with 13 singles entering days after his passing away. The most popular of all is the song ‘Heroes’ which is re-entered the chart at No: 12.

A combined 167,000 singles have sold since within 5 days of his death along with 241,000 combined albums and 19 million track streams.

The only new songs are ‘Blackstar’ the title track of his album released on 8th January and ‘Lazarus’. Across the Atlantic in the US Bowie scored his very first No: 1 album as ‘Blackstar’ debuted at the top with sales of 181,000.

One Direction has denied rumours the groups extended hiatus means they have split up for good. Many of the members have writing and recording material either to launch solo careers or directed at other artists.
