MAS Active to meet Commercial Credit in k.o final
View(s):League winner, MAS Active Trading and League No. 7 Commercial Credit & Finance PLC will meet each other in the knock-out final of the 23rd Singer MCA Premier League 2016. MAS Active Trading had already pocketed the prestigious “League’ title dethroning the 2015 winner, MAS Intimate Unichela.
The semi-finals, MAS Active Trading (the defender) vs. Sampath Bank at MCA and John Keells vs. Commercial Credit & Finance were completely washed out last weekend and was carried forward to Monday, 26/10 at the same venues. The top half semi final at MCA, MAS Active vs. Sampath Bank did not materialise even on the reserve day, due to soggy ground conditions and it was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
According to the tournament structure, MAS Active Trading, by virtue of being No. 1 in the league table thus advanced to the Final without playing a single game (they got a ‘bye’ to the semi –finals.) Commercial Credit, who withdrew from the league stage after playing two matches, due to five of their regulars being drafted to the Sri Lanka ‘A’ side that toured New Zealand.
They re-ignited their campaign by eliminating the 2015 league winner, MAS Unichela by three wickets in the quarter-final and went on to defeat 2015 knock-out runner-up John Keells by a whopping 142 runs to book a berth in the final.
It was quite dry at Katunayake and the bottom half semi-final between John Keells (2015 KO runners-up) and Commercial Credit and Finance went the distance, the latter trouncing the former by 142 runs.
