Rupavahini dedicates itself to protect children

Sri Lanka National Rupavahini has dedicated 12 hours of its air time from 7 am to 7 pm today, Sunday October 25 to highlight the importance of children and their protection.

The programme is aimed at educating and enlightening society on the importance of protecting children.

Starting with a walk participated in by President Maithripala Sirisena, professionals, artistes and sportsmen from Thurstan College Colombo at 7 am, the programme will follow up with various events and promotions to protect children.

There will be a series of street dramas at Diyatha Uyana in Battaramulla and live discussion aired on its channels could be participated in by those in Sri Lanka and abroad through skype, SMS, Twitter and Facebook and there will be musical programmes and short films during this period.

In coinciding with this, special blog and facebook account and a smart phone App tittled ‘Alert’ will be launched. At 6 pm there will be an event lighting lamp at 6 pm at Independence Square.

Simultaneous to the events in Colombo, there will be programmes in Galle, Ampara, Jaffna and Nuwara Eliya. The SLRC invites all the media institutions to join in its oath to protect the media guidelines when reporting issues related to children.
