European Film Fest returns to Colombo

Following a successful cinematic journey along Jaffna, Horana, Kandy, Batticaloa and Matara the European Film Festival will return to Colombo for screenings from October 28 to November 1 and for the closing ceremony.

Continuing the practice started last year to screen Sri Lankan short films before European Films, this year too in Colombo there will be 8 short films under the theme ‘Breaking Frames- Making Films’ which would screen during the festival.

The festival in Colombo will open with the German film ‘Phoenix’ at 6.30pm on October 28. On October 29 at 3.30 pm ‘A Royal Affair’ (Denmark) and Body (Poland) will be screened at 6.30pm. On October 30 at 3.30 pm ‘Love me or leave me’ (Slovakia) and at 6.30pm ‘We believed’ (Italy).

On October 31 Paddignton – UK will be screened at 10.30 am, Soof (The Netherlnds) and at 6.30 pm ‘The French Minister’ (France). On the final day at 10.30 am German film ‘Phoenix’ will be screened while Morgen (Romania) will be at 3.30 pm and The Black Brothers (Switzerland) at 6.30 pm.

Starting in Jaffna as the first ever international film festival in the peninsula, European Film Festival held from September 15 to 21 and travelling to Batticaloa, Kandy and Horana before it reaches the final destination in Colombo.

The festival will showcases 45 feature films including 12 debut films in competition at Majestic Cineplex at Cargil ls Square, Kailasapathy Auditorium University of Jaffna, Public Library Auditorium and Open Air Theatre of CPA.

Fine Arts Department of University of Jaffna, Ceylon Theatres and Agenda 14 collaborate to present this year’s festival.
