Sam Smith has made history by taking the latest James Bond theme song ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ straight to the top of the UK singles chart. The song is from the forthcoming Bond film Spectre and is the only theme song from the franchise to top the UK singles chart.

Of the 24 James Bond theme songs released two came close pretty close to taking the No:1 position. Duran Duran nearly made it, before peaking at No:2 with ‘A View To A Kill’ in 1985 and Adele with ‘Skyfall’ also peaked at same position in 2012.

‘Writing’s On The Wall’ has received mixed reactions as it was released on digital format on 23rd September. It is a very painfully slow orchestral pop track written by Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes.

The duo also produced the track along with Howard Lawrence and Guy Lawrence. ‘Writing On The Wall’ sold a combined 70,000 copies to debut at the top of the UK singles chart. It had a 13,000 lead over its nearest rival ‘What Do You Mean?’ by Justin Bieber.

The video to the song was released on 5th October. Sam Smith claims he wrote ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ in 20 minutes.

The catchy new song by Naughty Boy ‘Runnin’ (Lose It All)’ made a one notch entry to check on the UK top 10 singles chart at No: 9. The UK/garage track features the vocals of Beyonce and Arrow Benjamin.

The song was released online on 18th September and will be on Naughty Boy’s next album. Beyonce is one of the many writers of ‘Runnin’ (Lose It All)’.

Meanwhile the song will be a natural power ballad if the house music is removed. This is Naughty Boy’s fifth UK top 10 hit including his solitary No:1 ‘La La La’ featuring Sam Smith.

Justin Bieber has announced that his new album will be called ‘Purpose’ and will be released on November 13. It will feature his current top hit ‘What Do You Mean?’.

Kylie Minugue is to release her yuletide album called ‘Christmas’ on November 13. The 13 track album will also feature duets with her sister Danii, Frank Sinatra, Iggy Pop and James Cordon.

Six tracks will be new songs. Kylie is to stage a one-off concert to promote the album on 1st December at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Lady Gaga has recorded an updated rendition of Chic’s 1979 hit ‘I Want Your Love’ which will be on the 29 year old’s fifth album. She teamed up with Chic’s Nile Rodgers for the recording.
