A woman was shot dead and seven others injured in separate incidents of gang war in Colombo yesterday, police said.
They said a lone rider on a motorcycle shot dead a 42-year-old woman in broad daylight outside her home in the busy Jampettah, Kotahena, area around 2.30 p.m. before escaping.

Initial investigations revealed that the woman’s husband was in remand prison in connection with a murder, and was allegedly behind the drug trade in the area. Police said the woman was killed in an apparent revenge attack, and that a hunt was on for the killer.

In the other incident, seven were injured, including four women who sustained cut injuries, during a bloody clash between two rival groups at Keselwatta-Colombo, police said. One was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital, police added.
