The allocations of subjects and functions to ministers and state ministers will be finalised within a week, a President’s Office source said. Even though 43 Cabinet ministers and 19 state ministers have been appointed, the areas which will come under their purview have not yet been finalised due to last minute hitches in the allocation of subjects and functions in a manner that they do not overlap, the official said.

There are several cabinet and state ministers who have been entrusted with the same subjects and hence the different institutions coming under these ministries will have to be divided between the Cabinet minister and the state minister, the source said.These are some of the cabinet ministers and state ministers who have been put in charge of the same subjects:

Finance: Cabinet Minister Ravi Karunanayaka; state Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.
Law and Order: Cabinet Minister Tilak Marapana;-State Minister Priyankara Jayaratne.
Rehabilitation and Resettlement: Cabinet Minister D M Swaminathan; State Minister M.L.A.M. Hizbullah.
Agriculture: Cabinet Minister Duminda Dissanayaka; State Minister Wasantha Aluvihare.

Education: Cabinet Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam;and state Minister V. Radhakrishnan.
Lands: Cabinet Minister M .K D.S.Gunawardena; State Minister T.B. Ekanayaka.
Ruwan Wijewardene is the State Minister for Defence while the President is the Defence Minister.
