‘City Cinema’ Mount Lavinia is a modern day popular compact cinema that would please the highly tech-savvy connoisseur as well as the hardened film-goer. Situated at 143, 4th Floor, Mount City Building, the theatre’s mission is to give the patrons a big city entertainment experience in a suburban setting. In fact, City Cinema is the first fully fledged digital cinema in the area as it was not an old converted theatre.

The theatre with 3D / Digital Projection System, also has other technical features like 5.1 Surround sound. With 100-seat capacity, City Cinema gives comfortable movie experience with reclining chairs, centralized air conditioning and gradient steps in order to prevent obstruction of the view.

City Cinema has been originally designed for 2k Digital projection technology and not undergone a conversion from the traditional. This has allowed the theatre management to focus on creating a better customer experience. With its large screen and powerful sound system, City Cinema can bring out the best in action-packed blockbusters and quirky independent features alike.
City Cinema is definitely not a large antiseptic mega-plex, void of character but a comfy, snug motion picture alcove. It also offers a satisfying social experience in a homely atmosphere.

‘What I’m offering is affordable luxury” said Pradeep Nishantha Mohottige, the man behind creating this much needed addition to the city.  ‘I want to let the patrons relax in familiar, free environs and enjoy the wholesome entertainment on offer’. Pradeep, a well-known name in the film industry, is also the secretary of the Sri Lanka Film Exhibitors’ Association.

Cinema is in his blood so to speak, as it is a family legacy. “I yearn to make City Cinema a home away from home – a must-go place not just to watch films but for a delightful family outing. Enjoy! That’s the key word” he adds. And with enjoyment and entertainment in mind City Cinema has the best and latest in the world of cinema lined up for movie lovers.
