Lanka Cavaliers with a theme of ‘Cricket For Peace, Service and Goodwill’ will be staging this six-a-side tourney in place of the T20 Veterans tournament which took place in the earlier years.

This premier veterans cricket club was formed in 1997 by a set of cricketers who have played the game during the 1970s to late 1980s including several former national players. Cavaliers by organising this annual cricketing event gives the opportunity for the past veterans to get-together and reminisce their past memories of school, club and international cricket.

At the press briefing held at the Mercantile Cricket Association Conference room last Thursday it was revealed that twelve teams will be taking part where twelve matches is billed to be worked off including a decider for the third place. The tournament will be conducted to the guidelines and match rules in addition to the updated MCC laws of cricket and ICC Test and ODI match playing conditions.

Sponsored by OPF Employment, winners and runner-up will receive trophies and replicas along with cash prizes. There will be special prizes for the Best Batsman, Bowler, Fielder, Player of the Tournament and the Man-of-the Finals. Veteran cricket coach Nelson Mendis will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and will distribute awards.

Cricket fans of yesteryear will get a chance to witness their cricketing heroes in action who entertained them with superb batting and bowling displays and with on and off field relations.

Umpires from the Professional Cricket Umpires Association will officiate at the tournament.

Following teams will take part:

Old Palians, Navy SC, Thora 80s, Old Peterites, Old Bens, Olcotts PCU, PCU, Army Sappers, Association of Cricket Umpires, Sri Lanka Police, Mercantile Cricket Association, Colts CC.
