Remembering Tagore on his 154th birth anniversary

The Rabindra Jayanti celebrations will be held on May 7 at the University of Colombo and the Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo.

To commemorate the 154rd birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, Arindam Bagchi, Deputy High Commissioner of India, Colombo will be garlanding the bust of Tagore at the main Library of the University of Colombo at 9.30 a.m. on May 7 in the presence of the academic community and Tagore aficionados. The event is jointly organized by the Centre for Contemporary Indian Studies, University of Colombo and the Indian Cultural Centre.

The celebration will continue at the Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo with a rendition of Rabindra Sangeet by Ms. Thillini Rodrigo, a talk by Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara on “Tagore’s contribution to visual art in connection to Sri Lanka” to be followed by a documentary film on Tagore at 6 p.m. on the 7th at its auditorium at 16/2 Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.
