Shaanea Amantha Mendis D’Silva’s exhibition titled Cellscapes to be held at the Lionel Wendt has intriguing depictions of imaginary organic structures. The primary inspiration for her work is biological forms and patterns in nature.

Her creations in “Cellscapes” tend to draw in the onlooker gradually into a meditative contemplation of nature’s building blocks. The artist works primarily with pen and ink and water colour on paper, but also explores the boundaries of what can be termed “drawing” with her work with rust on canvas.

Working out of Sri Lanka, India, and in a number of container ships in the middle of the ocean, thanks to her husband Kevin being a marine engineer, Shaanea studied art at the Cora Abraham Art School, with Shyamala Pinto Jayawardena and Nadine David and later Fine Art at The ‘Lasalle College of The Arts’ in Singapore for four years.

“Cellscapes” will be on at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery on May 9 and 10.
