It was that time of year, when fun frolic and fellowship brings out the joy of springtime. The Avurudu Hamuwa at the Grand Hotel had all the possible ingredients to do just that for 250 plus resident guests. Grating coconut, eating “bunnis”, kotta pora, and Kana mutti were all included in the day’s programme. The freshly made traditional sweet meats in the “Tea Kade” were enjoyed both by young and old, to keep their energy levels high for the events that unfolded, culminating in the tug-o-war and the grease polla.

Many of the guests had made reservations as early as six months ago to be in Nuwera Eliya for the New Year period. “ We look forward to this event each year at the Grand, and are delighted with this year’s edition, which was certainly the best,” said Mr. Hassan, a regular visitor for the last six years.
