Alyna Haji Omar has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the J. Walter Thompson group in Sri Lanka bringing fresh breath to the group, according to Tarun Rai, Chief Executive Officer of the J. Walter Thompson group in South Asia.

He made this announcement at a media briefing held in Colombo recently. In her new role, Ms Omar’s main task will be to oversee operations of J. Walter Thompson’s group including that of J. Walter Thompson Sri Lanka and contract advertising. She will be taking over her new role in early June.

Mr. Rai said with Ms. Omar’s deep insight and understanding of the local market she was well poised to lead the J.Walter Thompson group in Sri Lanka. “She is young and ambitious and with her diverse experience, will be able to aggressively drive the new growth strategy for the group. She is the third woman to head the J. Walter Thompson Group in Sri Lanka,” he said.

Mr. Rai compared the present Sri Lankan political situation to that of India where changes have taken place rapidly for creating a new business climate by opening up markets for investments in future.

Ms Omar was the CEO of the Grant McCann group of companies since 2012 and has 18 years’ experience at Grant MCann group. (JJ)
